Coming Soon To Craigs List

Talk about buried treasure! The picture below was snapped by Asylum blogger Elizabeth Brady. Ms. Brady was fortunate unfortunate enough to be in Cape Hatteras, N.C. last week during Hurricane Ida. When I first saw the picture below I thought it was Jeremy Clarkson bashing on Porsche again, but it seems this Cayman was just an unfortunate victim of Mother Nature.

    Serious question: how much will this affect the value of the car? Obviously it doesn’t help. But after it’s all cleaned up, etc. how much cheaper would it be compared similar cars? 10% less? 25%? And who makes that valuation?

    Just curious.

    @RHM

    It really depends on the extent of the damage. It’s too hard to tell by just the picture, but you probably can assume that there is water damage too. Not sure if the sand was able to get into the car (or more importantly, the motor) but most likely it did. My guess is the car is “totaled” meaning the damage is more extensive then the replacement value. If that is the case, some states will issue it a salvage title and it will be sold at auction for parts. Other states will allow it to be resold back into the open market and in that case, it is buyer beware. Hence the name of the article.
