What’s Your Favorite Porsche Advertisement?

February 14, 2011 by Pepper Girl 8 Comments

In a post last week we talked about how Mercedes seemed to have borrowed liberally from Porsche in their Super Bowl advertisement. That got us to thinking about Porsche and their approach to advertising.

Videos such as this and others can be found on YouTube

Over the years Porsche has produced a fair amount of print advertisements and TV commercials (some, like the one above, more memorable then others). While we've seen a fair amount of them, we know there are lots more we haven't seen. As a result, we're asking for your help. Take a minute and comment below with your thoughts on the best piece of Porsche marketing you've seen - video, print or otherwise (if you're reading this via email you'll need to click on the title of this post to visit the site and comment). If your nomination can be found online, and you have a link to it, please post it so others can see too.

Not all Porsche Advertisements Take Themselves Seriously

We have no idea if this advertisement ever actually ran. However, the person that runs the site we found it on swears it was a real ad!

Porsche has certainly come up with some fantastic commericals over the years, the “Girl Flashes Car” makes an edgy yet powerful statement about the 911′s sex apeal – and let’s be honest, who can deny it?!

For me, the ad that has always stood out at the top of my list is this one:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRbzJ0L1Zn8

First of all, it reminds me of myself as a boy, and my first visit to the local Porsche dealership when I was 10. Secondly, there’s something about the video that sends excitement down my spine every time I rewatch it – I must be one of the “truly afflicted”.

Two ads come to mind – here’s a great one with a boy and his dad…

I also have always loved the print ad of a Twin Turbo Cab parked under a night sky with a falling star. The ad copy said “Pity There’s Nothing Left To Wish For…” but I can’t find a link to post.

That print ad, bizarre as it seems, may have been in the dealer press kit. We got a bit giddy back then and tried just about anything to sell the 964s! :O

While living in Germany during the late 1960′s, I purchased my first Porsche, a ’66 912.

At the time, Porsche was running an ad with the tag line, “Nur fliegen ist schoerner” – only flying is more beautiful.

However, the alternative version of this line in one automotive magazine of the time was, “Nur fliegen is teurer” – only flying is more expensive.

Need to have this handy for all the folks that want a “throw back” Porsche; you know, like in the good ‘ol days when Porsche built cars that were affordable to the masses.

I have always loved this TV ad. http://youtu.be/dvTVk0doJJM

And a few print ads stick out for me,

“It was a dark and stormy night, and kills bugs fast.
