What are Your 5 Favorite Porsche Resources

October 14, 2009 by 993C4S 12 Comments

I'm hoping to start a bit of a discussion with this post. Let's talk about the ways you get information on and about Porsche.

I've stated before that I have my own list of Porsche resources (and I definitely need to update it) that I use to collect information, educate myself and come up with ideas for blog posts. I'm interested in what you use.

What are your favorite ways of learning more about Porsche? Your answer can include anything Porsche related, on-line or off. I suspect that most of you will have one or two on-line spots you favor (maybe this site is even one of them). Perhaps it's a magazine, maybe it's a friend or mechanic, maybe it's your local club. Anything goes!

But please limit it to 5.

The best resource out there has got to be the Pelican Parts discussion forums, if for no other reason than the number of people participating, and the number of people who really know what they are talking about. In the 911 and engine forums especially, it would be pretty hard to think of a problem that had NOT been covered sometime in the past. The search function is not great however.

Next, the Bentley manual for your particular is even better than the factory shop manual.

    3rd, PET.

4th, the factory shop manual, which is sometimes arcane but very authoritative.

Last, your friendly parts recycler, be it Jim at EASY, or Gary Emory at Parts Obsolete. Both have encyclopedic knowledge of what fits what and where you can find it if they don’t have it.

    Great topic.

My 5 favorite resources for info on my 2006 Cayman S as well as Porsche in general are:
    1) Planet Porsche (was “Cayman Club” when I joined the website in 2005).
    2) Porsche’s official website
    3) Christophorous (to which I subscribe)
    4) PCA (of which I am a member) and their magazine, Panorama
    5) Excellece magazine

I certainly have others, and “Porsche Purist.com” is certainly one of my favorites! I also enjoy 6speedonline.com very much.

Of course, I have to be the weird one again.

This website from Charlie White features old Porsche sales brochures and technical literature. Even if you are not a buyer, there are many, many examples of interesting Porsche brochures.

My favourite there is this page featuring old Christophorus magazines. Those cover pictures are really from a different era. Beautiful!

All joking aside — a great forum, where any question you might possibly have has already been answered. 100 times over. (Search is your friend!)
