What was the Best Car Movie Ever Made?

February 5, 2008 by 993C4S 4 Comments

lemans.jpgRecently, I’ve been working on adding to my DVD collection. In doing so, I started looking through my collection of what I consider to be “car” movies. It got me to thinking: How do you determine what qualifies as a “car” movie and, more importantly, how do you determine the best “car” movie ever made?

Determining what qualifies as a “car" movie?

This was more difficult than I thought. In the end, my criteria came down to the simple fact that the plot of the movie needed to be about a car(s), car racing, or prominently feature cars in supporting roles.

Determining the best “car” movie ever made?

Well, I have my opinion of course, but I’m going to leave it up to you. The list below is one I put together based on my favorites. If I missed one, or your opinion differs, please let me know by commenting below. The poll ended a week after voting started. Here are the movies people could vote on.

  • Le Mans
  • Grand Prix
  • Bullitt
  • The Cannonball Run
  • Smokey and The Bandit
  • Mad Max
  • Gone in 60 Seconds
  • The Gumball Rally">The Gumball Rally
  • American Graffiti

Based on the fact that this is a Porsche themed blog and most of the people who read this are Porsche fans, I was thinking the winner wouldn't be a big surprise. Here are the results of our poll on the best car movie ever made. Thanks for voting!

What about CARS? One of the primary “characters” was a Porsche named Sally.

Had to be LeMans, but, I did love Cars, too, because Sally was so cute. I suppose “Doc Hollywood” doesn’t count, but, it should get a mention, somehow.
