Patrick Long Explains How To Correct For Understeer and Oversteer

Porsche’s “Driving Challenge” contest is well underway and the two lucky participants have completed their driver training with Patrick Long. In the first segment, Patrick taught them (and us) how to set the perfect seating position for driving our Porsches on the track or street. In today’s video we learn more about understeer and oversteer including their proper definitions, how to correct for them and how Porsche puts technology in place that can correct for it automatically should you choose to engage it.

  • Gee, I must have blinked - I missed the part where he told them how to correct for oversteer manually. Would you mind clarifying that?

      You didn't miss it. We didn't state things clearly and we apologize for that. He only briefly mentions how to correct for under steer (slowly roll off the throttle) and PSM is the solution in this video for over steer (if you want to correct manually, as I'm sure you know, you must keep the front wheels pointed in the direction you're hoping to go and apply the correct amount of opposite lock, which can be tricky without lots of practice).

      • Thanks, I'm a bit disappointed in the video itself, not much of a lesson, unless you need one in order to enable or disable the PSM by pushing the button on the console!
