For the past month we’ve followed two Porsche enthusiasts, Jack and Elvan, as Patrick Long instructed them in a series of driving lessons using the new 911 R as their platform. We learned the perfect seating position, how to correct for understeer and oversteer, the importance of heel-toe shifting and how to find the perfect line. Now, with the lessons over, it’s time to see how well Jack and Elvan do on their final drive.
Driving a stage of the Tour de France Automobile, a homage to the historic 911 R, which dominated the race from start to finish in 1969 with the driver Gérard Larrousse and his co-driver Maurice Gelin. The route stretches from Arreau to Col d’Aspin over a distance of 12 kilometers at an altitude of 795 meters with a max gradient of 6.7%
Personally, I wish these videos weren’t as scripted as they are. Anyone that’s ever seen Patrick behind a microphone or in-front of a camera knows how well he can do when ad libbing. With that said, I still enjoyed the whole series. I just wish they gave us final times, including those of Patrick…
