The crew over at EVO TV are in Geneva and they were able to spend time with Porsche’s head of GT cars Andreas Preuninger. While we think the "gun to the head" reason is valid for most of the fleet, Porsche sells so few of the GT3s that we can't help but think that CAFE regulations, while important, didn't play a big part in their decision making...
Thanks - gotta agree, up to a point abut CAFE for the fleet. However, does the GT3 have the "auto off at a signal" feature? Likewise - at the stroke of a political pen - Euro only cars can be banned for sale to the US of A. Witness Ferrari in the 70's who made the decision not to meet DOT standards and import their 288 GTO or the 512 BB. US is a BIG Porsche market and to have even one of their cars considered 'persona non grata" could be construed as a tacit admittance Porsche either doesnt care or they can't cut the environmental mustard. As stupid as that would be. After all - who introduced the mixed drive (Hy-bred) to the world at the 1900 Paris Auto show? Porsche of course with his Lohner front drive.
