Here’s What Every Porsche at the Monterey Auctions Sold For

The auctions in Monterey offered a little something for everyone. Gooding set a world record for the highest price ever paid for a Porsche ($14,080,000 for a 1970 917K) and Mecum had perhaps the steal of the century for a daily drive with a 2007 911 Turbo selling for just $50,000. Below we’ve listed the sell price of every Porsche we found available for auction this weekend. Please note that all prices include the buyer’s premium and numbers were sourced directly from the respective auction house’s website. At time of publishing not all results were available so we’ll be updating this post as more come online.

  • Mecum Auction seem to be a bust across all Marques.....I watched car after car roll by not sold, pretty scary, may we have hit bottom??

    • Hey, Alex,
In my opinion, Mecum is still trying to break into the high-end game and that's definitely what Monterey is. I can't speak to other marques, as I didn't pay much attention, but many of their Porsche listings are/were on the lower end (and the low-end of the low at that).

Without knowing the real quality of what sold and what didn't, I think it's safe to say we're continuing to see the same things we've been seeing for the past 24 months, a flight to quality. In other words, look at prices realized by Gooding and RM Sotheby's (even Mecum had a couple of impressive sales with almost a $1,000,000 for a CGT).

In my mind, Monterey is all about the collector and Mecum just didn't have the inventory to suite that audience. The few cars that did, did well. The rest? Well, as Mecum says, "the bid goes on"....

      • Hey Pepper girl u nailed on the Mecum thing. They have brought a knife to a gunfight. If u look at the other auctions they had a great sell through. Mecum is for the blue collar collector, and that's not Monterey.

  • Other Mecum Porsche-related auctions:
    F 139 1965 356 C convert restomod - no sale @ $200,000 West Coast Customs job
    W 66 1965 Devin D (w 912 engine) - no sale @ $35,000 allegedly built by Bill Devin
We have some Devin fans on the 356 Registry talk forum, so I thought that it might find an audience here among fellow Porschephiles.

  • Hit bottom - you must be kidding. This is the top of a ten ish year cycle that started with free money and has affected all asset classes sinve 2009.....

    • Most would say 2014 was the top. We're still seeing pretty strong numbers for the very good quality, very collectible Porsches above $250k. It's the stuff below that has stagnated (but definitely not hit bottom).

  • Pretty much none of the early Porsche 911 offered at the Monterey auctions were fully restored , some had partial cosmetic work done with the intention to maximize the sale , others had some aspects of preservation but required a lot of work , after the price surge on those cars on the last couple of years many were taken from hibernation , they were put on the market with very little done besides cleaning and touch ups with high expectations hoping to capitalize on the demand , it is clear though that is no longer working for the educated buyer .
