Adam Carolla Is Selling His Lamborghini Collection To Pay For His 935 Purchase

By now, most of you know that comedian and CarCast podcast co-host Adam Carolla was the winning bidder of Paul Newman’s Le Mans-winning Porsche 935 last month in Monterey. It’s a beautiful and historically important piece of Porsche history that took a class victory at Le Mans in 1979 (2nd overall) and went on to win the Daytona 24 Hour race in 1981 and the Sebring 12 Hour race in 1983. Adding to its already incredible provenance is the fact that this particular 935 was at one time known as the infamous “Apple Car” and that the few wins mentioned above are but a small part of its considerable provenance. Combine all that with its impeccable condition and it’s easy to understand how it sold for $4,840,000.

How’s Adam Going To Pay For His New Porsche?

Despite Adam’s successful career, (he’s a well known comedian and the co-host of the world’s most download automotive podcast, CarCast) nearly $5,000,000 is a lot of money for most anyone. Fortunately, Adam’s made some smart automotive purchases over the years and by offloading five cars in his collection he can pretty much fund the entire purchase of the 935.

What you may not know about Adam is that he’s a huge Paul Newman fan and owns as many as 10 of his race cars. That’s why we weren’t surprised to see the 5 Lamborghinis you see below come up for sale vs. any of the race cars. After all, Adam actively participates in vintage racing events with his other Newman cars. The Lamborghinis, not so much.

We reached out to Adam’s CarCast co-host, Matt D’Andria and he gave us the following information about the Lamborghinis for sale.

Who inspired who? Giurgiaro or Jean Graton? Various car on the famous Michel Vaillant comics resemble this VW-Porsche.

  • Ahhhh... if selling those 5 Lamborghinis for the asking prices would result in gross proceeds of $4,335,000 before any costs of sale (brokerage/auction premium)... this means Carolla is still short of the Newman Porsche price by nearly a MILLION DOLLARS, assuming that he was also responsible to pay the standard 10% buyer's premium charged by Gooding as standard (Newman Porsche hammer price of $4,840,000 plus $484,000 premium = $5,324,000)... but what's a million more or less? ;-)

    • Hey, Dallas,

The Lambos are listed (at least for now) privately, so no brokerage fees. However, with cars of those prices (at least the more expensive two) it's not unreasonable to think there might be some.

As for what he paid, the $4.84MM DOES include the buyer's premium. Just watched the video again to verify. You can see it here. https://www.facebook.com/flatsixes/videos/1090703860964877/

  • How much did that FS ad cost Carolla? I have a 2001 Corolla for sale. Can I list it here too? I have expenses too.

  • Confident that he is sad to see that the Miuras go ... as rare and collectable as they are ...But ...the 935 is One of One ..with a SOLID history ( with no less than Paul Newman )
** hope to see in action at Monterey where Mr Carolla is a regular
Gotta ' smile though ..named Carolla ..But a Datsun freak ( love him for that ) ..and Now rolling with PORSCHE =) ....
