Perhaps New England Isn’t the Best Market to Try and Sell This Porsche

More than 25 years have passed since Boston’s Bill Buckner let a slow roller up the first base line slip through his legs during game 6 of the championship (causing the Sox to lose the game and ultimately the series). While what happened took only an instant, the memory lives on in the minds of Boston baseball fans to this day. One bad play defined what was otherwise an excellent career. Even though the Sox have gone on to win the Championship since then, there are some Boston fans who still can’t forgive. Perhaps that’s why this 1987 Porsche 930 Turbo, once owned by Bill Buckner has yet to sell.

A local New England car, this particular 930 has been listed a few times in the past with even higher pricing than the current asking price of $55,000 (see it here on Craigslist).

With only 32,000 original miles and finished in what is thought to be the original Guards Red with gold BBS rims, the price doesn’t seem too bad. However, in these parts, even after “reversing the curse”, it’s possible this Porsche will never sell locally. Perhaps the seller would be better off listing it some where other than Red Sox Nation?

  • $55k for an 87 930, no matter who owned it, is about 10k too much IMHO. For that price I would rarther have a 94 3.6Turbo. I wouldn't turn $55k down on my 89 930 however, just never thought about selling it as the 5 speed is just a better 930 than a 4 speed.
    Let the flaming begin...

    • Richard,

I doubt you'll get flamed. $55k is a lot of money, but it's not outrageous considering prices we're starting to see on the '87 to '89 930 turbos. Perhaps it's retail price vs. private sale, but we think the seller believes that its celebrity provenance has value. Perhaps it does, but probably not in New England. :-) A Mets fan, maybe...

Love the '94 3.6 Turbo. We have a story coming out in the next day or two about the Bad Boys Porsche (perhaps the most famous 3.6 Turbo).

if you have a 89 930 Turbo with less then 70k miles then call me Im a buyer 256 335 9415. I buy any good 930 or 964 that is clean

  • A little overpriced in my opinion, but if he can get it, then it's worth it (at least to the buyer). The "celebrity value" is questionable at the very least.
