Retro Porsche Rarity is Up For Grabs!

What do you remember most from the 80’s? The hair? The music? The TV shows? What about something from that decade you would still enjoy owning today: the cars! If you’re like me, some of your favorite Porsches came from that decade. This one caught my eye: a 1988 Porsche 911 Targa modified by dp Motorsports!

Let’s back up a second: You may be asking yourself, “Who is dp Motorsports?” dp (Design Plastik) Motorsports tuner group was brought to life by Ekkehard Zimmermann in the 70’s, where Zimmermann’s 911 body kits and modified race cars found success on and off the track – Kremer Racing fielded a dp Motorsport modified 935 to victory in the 1979 24 Hours of LeMans! dp Motorsports is still around today, and they are responsible for some fantastic modified Porsches made today. They’ll put a 993 motor in a carbon fiber bodied 1985 911, they’ll tweak a Carrera GT – they will even turn a 944 into a shooting-brake!

However, it is worth noting that they have only once modified a 911 Targa with a G-50 transmission. This is that Targa (there is one other Targa in existence without the G-50)!! This particular example started as a relatively basic 911 Targa, with heated leather sports seats (always good options!). In March of 1988, dp Motorsports upgraded the car with a wild 935 slantnose body kit! Popup headlights, vented and straked fenders, a whale of a spoiler, and bold gold BBS wheels – the result was a quintessential 80’s Porsche.

Again, this is the only G-50 transmission Targa dp Motorsports converted (1 of 2 Targas and the only one with a G-50 transmission), making it an extremely unique addition to anyone’s stable!

dp Motorsports was kind to keep the rear aesthetically pleasing, since the competition won’t be seeing much else!

If these modifications weren’t enough, its original owner wasn’t satisfied until the interior was upgraded to match the external changes; Fred Opert Racing out of New Jersey gave the seats and center console a two-tone red/black leather completes the look! The result is a very sporty and focused interior:

Pictures simply don’t do the car justice. The flatnose 911s have an especially aggressive look I enjoy; their contemporary 911 counterparts look so wide-eyed and “innocent” by comparison! With the wide grille and ventilated fenders, the front of this Porsche is all business.

The car looks clean, the engine looks clean, which is exactly what one would expect with only 15,000 miles on the odometer. All of the receipts and documentation are a clear indicator that this car has led a pampered life and is ready to drive. Porsches like this don’t come around often so be sure to check the seller’s page for more information!
