Our Favorite Porsches on eBay: Volume 72

We’ve been compiling some amazing Porsche models on eBay for over two years now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. This week we have a good diversity of selections including the predecessor to the Cayman GT4, a “barn find” 914, a collectible 928, a Porsche police car and a wide bodied tuner 964 that you’re either going to love or hate. Keep in mind, some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 2012 Porsche Cayman R For Sale

Before the GT4 came the Cayman R, a hard-top answer to the Boxster Spyder. If purchased in its true form, meaning with all the weight savings intact (no radio, no A/C, manual transmission, etc.) the 2012 Cayman R is 121 lbs lighter than its run of the mill siblings. Unfortunately, who ever ordered this one checked the boxes to add back some of that weight with a PDK transmission, A/C and radio. Regardless, this is one sharp looking coupe. Pricing seems a bit aggressive in my opinion, but then again with “used” GT4s trading above MSRP, maybe this is a good choice for someone with Champagne taste and a beer bankroll.

2. 1970 Porsche 914 1.7 “Barn Find” For Sale

While the seller is calling it a “barn find” I’m not convinced that’s just not typical eBay hyperbole trying to attract attention to the sale. Even still, this could be an interesting project depending on where pricing adds up. The seller says this particular 914 sat for 29 years in “dry storage” shortly after being repainted and the engine rebuilt (but not installed). The engine is now in place and the 914 runs, but leaks oil. The seller notes that it’s “solid” but doesn’t provide any pictures of the usual places to look for rust on a 914 (like the ‘hell-hole’). In addition, from what you can see in the pictures the gap between the passenger rear quarter and the trunk looks a bit large, but might just need an adjustment. With the bidding currently at $5700 and change there is a lot of interest in this 914 (more than 58 bids). Reserve is yet to be met, so I wonder what the seller’s expectations are in today’s market.

3. 1993 Porsche 928 GTS For Sale

With only 406 of these delivered to North America, the 928 GTS is a super collectible Porsche. In fact, we routinely see these 928s (albeit with fewer miles and a manual transmission) trading for nearly twice the “Buy it Now” price of the GTS in question. The seller doesn’t provide a very detailed description, so be sure to ask a lot of question, but there is a plethora of large and revealing pictures that show what appears to be a very clean and presentable example.

4. 1983 Porsche 911 Dutch Police Car For Sale

Starting in the 1950s Porsche produced Polizeiautos based on the 356 Cabriolet models. They continued to do so until 1966. Then, in 1968 the first Porsche police cars in the form of 911s and 912s entered into production. Today, governments and municipalities around the world still rely on all models of Porsches to enhance their Police fleets. The seller of this Dutch based Police 911 doesn’t provide much in the way of history, but if it proves to be the real thing, and the price can be properly negotiated, this could be a fun addition to your Porsche garage.

5. 1990 Porsche 911 RWB 964 For Sale

Rauh-Welt Begriff and the whole RWB culture is an acquired taste. Admittedly, if garage space and money were no object, I would own one, and Pandora One (the first RWB built in the US) might just be it. Unlike a lot of RWB builds we see, Pandara One has some brawn to back up its brash looks. The seller says it produces 450 hp at the wheels. Built on a 1990 964, this is a backdated RWB liveried in Mignonette Green.
