Our Favorite Porsches on eBay: Volume 82

We’ve been compiling some amazing Porsche models on eBay for over two years now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. This week’s mix has the last a Boxster example similar to one we own and are thinking of selling, a properly depreciated Turbo S Cayenne, a sharply priced 2004 Turbo Cab that probably won’t last long, and a ’87 911 with a very sharp and rare color. Keep in mind, some of these Porsches could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 For Sale

964s have enjoyed significant price appreciation for some time now. And while this 1990 Carrera 4 looks to be a clean/honest example, I’m not sure that the pricing isn’t just a bit too high given its mileage and described condition. With that said, this 911 has had significant mechanical work completed over the last few year (not the least of which is a new clutch and lightweight flywheel). The seller seems to accurately describe each and every nuance of the car, but we would still suggest a PPI. Lastly, we’re familiar with shop that has serviced this particular 911 and they are known for doing quality work. The buyer has this set-up as a “Buy it Now” type listing, but he is open to offers. Maybe you could make a reasonable one.

2. 2004 Porsche 911 Turbo Convertible For Sale

I almost didn’t want to feature this 996 Turbo Cab when I first saw it. Among many other choices, we’ve been thinking about a 2004 911 Turbo Cab as a nice addition to our collection for a while. The problem for us has always been color. You see, I’m just not a fan of the classic silver over gray or black over black (especially on a cab). I’m a big fan of Lapis Blue and if this particular 996 has a beige interior you probably would have never seen it here. 🙂 As it is, with how pricing has been rising on these models, we would suggest acting fast if you’re interest as this 911 seems to be priced right if it checks out.

3. 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera For Sale

Granite Green, that’s what caught my attention. The seller describes it as “very special, Grey with a hint of green over black interior”. The paint is said to be mostly original with some damage to the hood paint (but it’s hard to tell in the pictures). The top end of the engine was rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago and the seller says it runs strong. He’s upgraded the wheels to a large size from stock, but the original wheels are included in the sale. Depending on where pricing settles out on this example, it could be a good candidate for a donor car for our Keen Project aspirations.

4. 2009 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S For Sale

These older Cayennes are quickly becoming the bargain of the century. Depreciation, and the introduction of a new generation, is crushing values. That’s bad news for sellers, but great news for you as a buyer because man do these things perform. Not only can they outperform most sports cars on the track, the Turbo S is an extremely competent towing machine (capable of towing loads up to 7700 lbs). If you’re looking for an all around grocery getter, dog hauler or something to tow your track toy, you’re going to want to start looking at these earlier Cayennes. Now, like any Porsche, they have their share of known issues (and those can get expensive quickly in the case of deferred maintenance), so be sure to do some research and have a PPI done by a qualified independent or local Porsche dealer. Oh, yea, pay extra special attention when researching this example given the previous owner added his own scripting to the model badging on the rear hatch.

5. 2002 Porsche Boxster For Sale

As some of you may know, we purchased a 2002 Boxster for ourselves last Spring. Now, we’re thinking very strongly about having Leh Keen build us a Safari 911 as part of The Keen Project. To do that, we’ll need to sell our Boxster to make room and help fund our next project. As a result, we’re watching the Boxster market closely. The 2002 in this listing is not ours, but it is very similar, it’s a well maintained base model with very low miles and a more desirable exterior color (same as ours, although we have a beige/caramel interior). The seller’s description mentions a number of recent maintenance item and it appears to be an honest example. We think the pricing is spot on (if not on the low side for the miles) and this particular Boxster, assuming it checks out, probably won’t last too long.
