Our Favorite Porsches on eBay: Volume 85

We’ve been compiling some amazing Porsche models on eBay for over two years now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. Keep in mind, some of these Porsches could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Turbo For Sale

Prices for certain segments of the air-cooled market continue to settle into more realistic realms (remember, it’s all relative) and the late eighties Turbo couple market seems to fall into that category. While this particular 911 has a moderately aggressive price-tag it’s much closer to “normal” than numbers we were seeing just a few short months ago. What sets this Turbo apart for me is a combination of how clean it looks in the pictures and the Silver over blue color configuration.

2. 1992 Porsche 911 Turbo For Sale

This is the first of two listings this week that have the potential to be bargains if you don’t mind mid to higher mileage. With just over 67,000 miles showing on the odometer, this 964 turbo has barely covered an average of 2700 miles per year. Said to be all original and unmodified this 964 recently underwent a 60k service inclusive of belts, tensioner, valve adjustment, gaskets and fuel filter. The seller claims to have “all records”, but also mentions this is “1 of only 289 built”. Not quite sure what is meant by that, so definitely ask questions but don’t let the mileage scare you from looking as it could definitely mean a bargain price.

3. 1996 Porsche 911 993 Turbo For Sale

If the high miles don’t scare you away, this could just be the least expensive 993 Turbo you’ll find. The seller claims the 911 to be “highly optioned” but neglects to mention what those options are in the listing. They also point out a $5,000 after market exhaust install but no mention as to who the manufacturer is and where it was done. While I would approach with caution, I would still approach. Get a thorough PPI done, take care of the few minor cosmetic issues mentioned in the listing and you can probably get yourself one of the most sought after 993s for under $100k.

4. 1973 Porsche 911 RS Tribute For Sale

This ’73 Carrera RS tribute started its life as a 1983 911. From there the Porsche was placed on a rotisserie, stripped to bare metal and that’s when the serious work began. The seller claims to have used a whole host of original ’73 parts including the “long hood”, dash front panels, steering wheel, etc. Most impressively, the build is said to include details like the use of lightweight carpeting (just like the real thing). The engine and transmission were both rebuilt less than 500 miles ago and the seller provides some details to the process, but we would ask for more. Assuming it’s as good as described this is one way into the rarified world of a ’73 911 Carrera RS at a fraction of today’s pricing.

5. 1972 Porsche 914 For Sale

I just love the color of this 914 and the overall honesty of the description and the Porsche. Not only does the seller claim it’s his only car/daily driver, it’s wearing a glorious covering of Viola Pearl paint. While the seller does list a few items in “the bad” column, they are mostly cosmetic and all easily repaired.

  • You mentioned a 993TT as having high millage at 80,000, I thought that was wrong. there are plenty of 993 and 993TT with a lot more miles. The cars are bullet proof!

Here is you article talking about a 993TT that is for sale saying if the mileage doesn't scare you:

    http://flatsixes.wpengine.com/cars/for-sale-cars/favorite-porsches-ebay-volume-85/

Here is a thread with one guy who daily drove his to 243,000.

    https://rennlist.com/forums/993-turbo-forum/475754-highest-mileage-993tt.html

There is a Dr. in NY State who daily drives his and has over 300,000 miles and it has been problem free. Of all people, you guys should know 80,000 is nothing on one of these cars. The reason most are low mileage is they are second or third cars. Porsche used to have an ad that said the 993 Turbo is designed to be driven every day to its limit for a full tank of gas. I don't know anyone who can drive one at its limit...

    • Hi, Don,

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment.

You're right, we would have been better off omitting the word "high" from our description and just left it at mileage. Our intent wasn't to imply that 80,000 miles are too many. Instead it was more a comment on the fact that most people who contact us looking for 993s (especially Turbos) are looking for "collectable" Porsches vs. what you and I might consider a driver.
