Our Favorite Porsches On Ebay This Week: Volume 44

We’ve been compiling the best Porsche models on eBay for about a year and a half now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. There is some great new stuff every two weeks, so check back often. We’ve tracked down five more exciting Porsches for you nice people to purchase today, including what seems to be a bargain of a 911 project, a GT3 Cup racer, a gorgeous Macan, a sporty 968, and a pretty cool rarity of a 964 Speedster. Some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 1971 Porsche 911T Targa Project For Sale

If you’re looking for a good restoration candidate, this 911 might be the one for you. The price seems low in today’s market, and while it comes sans drivetrain, the car looks largely complete and fitted with desirable ‘S-trim’. As a 1971 car, this appears to be a nice mostly rust-free example of a long wheelbase short long hood car that everyone seems to be going gaga about lately. Even without the engine and transmission, this 911 has a good ‘barn find’ story behind it, having been in dry storage for many years. The listing says there is ‘minor’ rust on the floors and rockers, but the included photographs don’t look all that bad if you ask me. The worst of it appears to be at the bottom of the driver’s door opening. With some minor repairs and a repaint, this car could be back-to-perfect in just a couple of months, which is just the right amount of time to source and rebuild an engine and transaxle. Buyer beware?

2. 2011 Porsche GT3 Cup Car For Sale

In what is probably one of the deals of the century, this 997 GT3 Cup will probably end up selling for less than 6 figures and offers a level of performance that you just cannot get in a street car. This is a real-deal racing car that is faster, more dynamic, and much more involved than anything Porsche has ever built for the street. You might think your 991 GT3 RS is the hot ticket, but if you’ve never experienced a GT3 Cup, you wouldn’t know what you are missing. This could be your opportunity to go wheel-to-wheel racing in a dedicated sports machine for less than the cost of a new no-options Carrera S.

This racer claims to have been upgraded and maintained by the current owner to the tune of more than $50 grand, and the car is competitive in class. The engine and transmission are also said to only have about 50 hours on them since the last rebuild, and should have a lot more life in them. They say “Very fast and very reliable“, which sounds like a great combination to me.

3. Mexico Blue Paint-to-Sample 2016 Porsche Macan S For Sale

There probably isn’t much collector potential in a brand new Macan S, but I’ll be damned if that Mexico Blue paint doesn’t look spectacular on the small SUV’s sculpted flanks. To add to that, this is the first Macan that I’ve seen that I actually liked with non-paint-matched ‘side blades’. The black wheels and black side blades actually accentuate the bright blue color instead of muddle it. This was a highly optioned Macan and features very low miles, so if you’re in the market for one, you might actually pick up a heck of a deal buying this one. It’s even got that all-important PASM.

4. 1995 Porsche 968 ‘M030 Package’ Coupe For Sale

The 968 is one of the most under-appreciated Porsches ever produced. This was a great car in its day, and remains a lot of fun to drive. Sharing many components with the 944, the 968 provides a great neutral handling platform with one of the most sublime engines and comfortable interiors combining to make a great sports car for the street, or track. This particular car is one of only 99 M030 Sport Suspension package cars delivered to the US market, and marks the final year of hand-built Porsche 968 production. I have a lot of appreciation for the front-engine transaxle Porsches, and this is the absolute best of the breed. At nearly 30,000 dollars, this 968 is probably the most expensive one in the world right now, but it has all of the touchstones of a great car, and these should have collector potential in the next few years. Get in on one of the best Porsches of the 1990s before the prices explode.

5. Special-Wishes 1994 Porsche 964 Speedster For Sale

According to the listing on eBay, this is a ‘one of one’ car, with no other car in the world configured this way. While I don’t put much stock in such claims, the 964 speedster is still a fairly rare Porsche that many collectors desire. If you’ve already got a 356 Speedster, a 1989 Carrera Speedster, and a 997 Speedster, then your collection wouldn’t be complete without this one. If nothing else, many Porsche collectors are completionists. Of the 964 Speedsters I’ve seen for sale recently, this one has quite a few desirable options, including RS seats and RS door panels. The paint-matched wheels add a little extra awesome to the car’s side-view.

While the claim of ‘unique’ might be a bit spurious, this could be a great addition to your collection. The price is a bit on the high side at nearly 200 grand, but for a low-mile rarity this striking, someone may deem that price payable. Will it be you?

  • a 50+ hour cup car engine and a 50+ hour cup car transmission are both reaching if not past their rebuild date. What's driving the sale of this cup car on EBay by its owner is the cost of both rebuilds.
The "upgrades" move this car in PCA Club Racing out of the GTC5 class to GTA, where it will be uncompetitive without substantial dollars being spent on other "improvements"

    • I was under the impression that 100 hours was 'normal' for a cup engine, but I don't have a lot of personal experience with them, and everything I know is hear-say. What do you recommend for service hours?
