Our Favorite Porsches On Ebay This Week: Volume 63

We’ve been compiling some amazing Porsche models on eBay for almost two years now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. In all that time, we’ve published these every other week. Well, enough of you have spoken up that we’re going to try a weekly format, with two of us picking selections, so check back often. I’m fresh from a weekend at Laguna Seca for the Monterey Motorsport Pre-Reunion, so this week I’ve assembled five exciting racing Porsches for you you to peruse, including an insane 996 RSR with GT2 motivation, a real-deal 993 Cup 3.8 liter,  a wild 930 racer, a vintage racing 911, and a 356 Speedster with vintage racing potential. Some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 2002 Porsche 911 GT3R With A Pro-Built GT2 Engine For Sale

Sometimes there comes along a car that is so perfect in its execution that you can’t help but sit back and admire it for a while. I’m not sure there is any part of me that is capable of piloting this mad machine around a track, but I’d damn sure like to give it my best shot. This 996 is possibly the most hardcore racing car I’ve seen to date, starting with a GT3R chassis and adding a massive 830 turbocharged horsepower. This is a recent build, having only been finished earlier this year. The car has a full 90-minutes of test time since the build was completed, so it’s fair to say that someone spent a lot of money building this car, and then scared themselves the first time they took it out. Rather than risk their own life and limb, they decided to pass it on so some other poor sap that is perhaps a bit crazier than they. Are you the person to take up that gauntlet?

2. 1995 993 Cup Upgraded To RSR 3.8 Liter Spec For Sale

This 993 is alleged to be the only 993 Cup car that was upgraded by Porsche Motorsport North America to full 993 RSR 3.8 liter EVO specification in 1997. The current sprint engine is thought to produce somewhere in the realm of 400 horsepower. The upgrades were done by Andial at the behest of Porsche, including extensive bodywork modifications, a center lock wheel conversion, and suspension upgrades with OEM parts. Many of these parts are no longer available, and the car would supposedly cost in excess of a million dollars to recreate today.

3. 1986 Porsche 911 Turbo (930) 3.3 Liter SCCA Club Racer For Sale

Much like the 996 we discussed earlier, “This car has had very little race time on it, but lots of $$ spent on the best stuff you can get.” Which tells me the seller put a bunch of time and effort into this car only to realize that they were not driver enough to handle it on the track. If you want a rocket with no expense spared, this appears to be the Porsche for you. There is nothing more intimidating than a black paint, wide-fender 911 with Fikse 3 piece wheels. I’d absolutely love this one.

4. 1972 Porsche 911S Converted To Full ST Spec For Sale

This Porsche was created in-period to be the best racer it could be. Starting with a 1972 911S street car, the owner/racer of this car installed a 2.5 liter high-butterfly injection engine. This Porsche has been a racing car since it was new, and has never seen the street. The car has been certified by the SVRA, and they only give medallions to real-deal racing cars, so it has that going for it. “There are lots of cool period details such as a 10K tachometer, old toggle switches for the endurance lights, lightening of the tub and doors, period fiberglass parts and real 8 and 9 inch Fuchs wheels as well as many other period modifications that tell the story of this great old warrior.” If you’re looking for something to take vintage racing, this is a good place to look.

5. 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster For Sale

This is the only Porsche on our list that has never been raced, but there’s plenty of time to fix that problem. Starting with a gorgeously restored example is the only way to know that your race car has the best possible bones. If people took brand new Speedsters racing, why wouldn’t you be able to turn this restored numbers-matching speedster into your own personal racing car? This car was only three-thousand dollars when it was brand new, so don’t think of it in the perfect several-hundred-thousand-dollar condition its in now, but think of it as a vintage race car just waiting to be set free. Okay, maybe don’t do that. But it’s a great Speedster to consider if you’re looking for one.
