Watch #LuftAuto Bring Big Money For Charity

Yesterday we attended Luftgekühlt and it was one of the best Porsche events we’ve ever been to. We’ll discuss more about the event later this week, and include a whole bunch of photos for your enjoyment. For now, we’re focusing on #LuftAuto and the RM Sotheby’s auction that took place during the event at high noon. [Editor’s Note: The auction of the car itself starts around 14:30 if you want to jump ahead]

Auctioned for charity, and with a pre-auction value of $100,000, the bidding began at just sixty grand. The bidding rapidly reached the 6-figure mark, and started creeping upward as it became clear that there were two bidders that really wanted this lovely custom off-road Porsche. Considering that the cost of the 911 was considered a charitable donation at anything over the pre-auction valuation, there was a nice tax write-off for the buyer to claim as well. Climbing up and up, the crowd of hundreds stood in shocked silence, then raucous applause as the bidding breached two-hundred thousand. When it finally settled, the car had sold to a new owner for $275,000, without any buyer’s premium.

This is a unique piece that will remain unmatched for the rest of time. Some great Porsche artisans worked to make this car a reality, and the craftsmanship was evident inside and out. The details of #LuftAuto were the best part, so take a look at a few of them here. That interior would be a lovely place to spend some quality off-road time. I hope we see this car out at future events. Why not put on a set of tarmac tires and enter it at Pikes Peak this year? It’s just a thought…
