We’ve been compiling some amazing Porsche models on eBay for a few years now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing examples pop up now and again. This week, because the whole community has had 944s on the brain, we’ll look at some transaxle Porsches with serious collector potential. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed our “curated” look at the Porsche market. Keep in mind, some of these Porsches could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo Clubsport For Sale
While barely a footnote in Porsche motorsport history, the 944 Turbo Clubsport does exist in small number. For participation in certain showroom stock categories of the SCCA, the Clubsport was created to undercut the upper end of the series’ price cap. As such, the Clubsport features very little in the way of included equipment, but does have a shock tower brace, improved coilover suspension, a limited slip differential, a Recaro driver’s seat, manual windows and mirrors, and a roll cage. It was equipped similarly, thus, to the Canadian Turbo Cup series cars, but with US market equipment.
This car was raced in IMSA’s Firehawk series in the 1980s before being sold off into a Porsche collectors private stash. Back in 2008, adding to its provenance, this car was purchased by Matt Drendel, renowned Porsche Turbo enthusiast.
So few of these were built that many Porsche collectors aren’t even aware they exist. It was an option package that was available for the car, but there is no record of exactly how many were made. I do know that I’ve never seen another, which helps explain the ridiculously high 6-figure price tag. If you want a turbocharged Porsche RS-ish model, you’re willing to pay the price though, right?

2. 1990 Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet For Sale
It doesn’t get much more rad than a 944 S2 Cabriolet in draped in Velvet Red Metallic paint. With a 3-liter inline four and a 5-speed manual to stir the soul, you can drop the top to also stir your hair. This is a pretty awesome looking cab, and with low miles and an actually reasonable pricetag, this could be an incredible buy.

3. 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo For Sale
This 944 Turbo has been lightly modified with a set of period correct color-matched wheels and a more modern air conditioning system, and looks an absolute stunner with under 75,000 miles on the odometer. This is definitely a driver-grade car that should be run through the high RPM range as frequently as possible. Go for a good drive in a good 944 Turbo and it’s a life changing experience.

4. 1992 Porsche 968 Coupe For Sale
If a 944 S2 is good, the 968 is perfection on the same theme. With a slightly changed body style and the addition of a sixth gear and variable valve timing, the 968 got just a little bit better. Better is always good, right? With just over 100,000 miles on this example, it’s still got plenty of life in it if you maintain it properly. If you’re looking for a rare bird that will stand out in a crowd, look no further.

5. 1988 Porsche 924S For Sale
If you have always wanted a 944, but preferred a narrower body and track for maximum aerodynamic efficiency, the 924S is absolutely what you’re looking for. This cherry example has just 27,000 miles on the odometer, and looks absolutely museum-quality. This is an excellent example of a lightweight and fun to drive car. It’s not as powerful as the others on the list, but it’s light, nimble, and carries speed through the corners really well. It’s absolutely a Porsche of the highest order.
