We’ve been compiling some amazing Porsche models on the internet for over five years now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing examples pop up now and again. This week we want to flex our muscle, so we’re featuring Porsche’s V8 grand tourer, the 928! Hopefully you’ve enjoyed our “curated” look at the Porsche market. Keep in mind, some of these Porsches could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 1983 Porsche 928S Manual For Sale
I’m a sucker for the early body style 928s with a wedgier look that speaks more to the 1980s aesthetic. This Rubino beauty with a matching leather interior is spectacular to look at, and with a manual transmission is a joy to drive. Manual 928s are some of the best cars Porsche has ever committed to metal and leather. They’re elegant and comfortable to drive with a dark side when you dip into the throttle pedal. With just 47,915 miles on this car, it looks like an absolute gem. The seller says this car may have had some panels repainted at some point, but it would be a shame to let this one sit anyway. Make your own stone chips. Drive it. Enjoy it.

2. 1980 Porsche 928 5.0-liter Swap Manual For Sale
With a buy-it-now price of just $18,500, this might be the a great 928 for that money. The key is to always buy a nice example with all of the maintenance already completed. This one is interesting, because it received a later 5-liter euro-spec engine from a 928 S4. The stock 4.5-liter V8 made 240 horsepower, while the bigger and later engine made 320 from the factory. That’s an impressive bump, and the work was done by reputable shop 928 International way back in 1996. The seller says all systems are functional and operational, and despite having a later CD player installed, the factory original radio is included in the sale. This is the one I would buy.

3. 1989 Porsche 928 S4 For Sale
Speaking of the 928 S4 engine, here’s one with that engine fitted from the factory. This car in “linen grey” is absolutely gorgeous from the outset. While I’m partial to the early bumper cars, these later and more rounded bumpers look almost modern even today. This one features a 4-speed automatic that Porsche cribbed from Mercedes Benz, and while it’s not quite as fun as the manual, it’s a stout and reliable unit. This would be an excellent addition to any collection with just 37,000 miles on the clock. Not quite collector grade, but a nice low mile example of a comfortable grand tourer.

4. 1989 Porsche 928 S4 Manual For Sale
And if you buy the one above, here is its foil. The black over tan car to complement the tan over black car. And this S4 has a manual transmission versus the automatic, making it the more fun choice of the two. It is not inexpensive, that is for sure, but it’s had a full slew of recent services, which is an absolute must when it comes to 928 purchases. The ad says “New Clutch, Valve Cover Gasket, A/C Charge and Converted to R134A, Intake Gaskets, New Water Pump, Timing Belt and New Tires” which is pretty comprehensive.

5. 1994 Porsche 928 GTS For Sale
The 92-95 Porsche 928 GTS is the top of the heap when it comes to transaxle Porsches. This big comfy autobahn attack car received a 5.4-liter V8 with 345 horsepower and 369 ft-lb of torque. This monster features the 4-speed automatic and a limited slip differential, plus all of the bells and whistles to make it a fun and fast highway hauler. You could sit at triple digit speeds on the highway until the fuel tank runs out, then fill it up and do it all over again. It will provide no groans about that, just stable and comfortable speed. This one looks well cared for inside and out, and with still less than 70,000 miles it’s got plenty of life left. Take care of it, and it will take care of you.
