Our Favorite Porsches On Ebay This Week: Volume 23

For all of the eccentric and eclectic Porsche collectors and enthusiasts out there, we’ve decided that it is about time someone aggregated the best of the best that eBay has to offer in the Porsches-for-sale department. Now we’ve tracked down five more exciting Porsches for you folks to purchase. The list this week includes a pair of very rare 993s, an oddball open-top 964, a gorgeous 911 SC, and a vintage racer that looks like loads of fun. Some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. Amaranth Violet 1999 Porsche 911 (993) Carrera 4S For Sale

With some choice enthusiast modifications and a gorgeous paint-to-sample coat of Amaranth Violet, this 993 C4S looks fantastic. This would make a great addition to the Porsche collection of a brand new GT3 RS owner who’s recently placed an order for one in UltraViolet. If one Purple Porsche isn’t enough, this one should help. I am a bit of a weirdo, and I always like Porsches in oddball colors like this, there’s something about having something nobody else has. If a C4S isn’t rare enough for you, then perhaps this purple one would be.

This one is modified almost exactly the way I would modify it myself, were I to have purchased it new. A set of MY02 lightweight wheels, some H&R lowering springs, a short shift kit, and the front-end protection bar have been installed, and they’re just great. I’m not 100% sold on the aftermarket rear spoiler, but it might grow on me.

[Editor’s Note: We’re watching this auction very, very closely as we have a ’97 993 C4S in similar condition (also in a fairly rare color) and the pricing/bidding for this Porsche is climbing rapidly.

2. 1974 Porsche 911 SCCA B-Production Racing Car For Sale

This 1974 911 S has seen some things. It’s been to battle, and often it’s won. This car is reported to have given Porsche its very first win in SCCA B-Production class racing, and it’s raced the 12 hours of Sebring once, and the 24 hours of Daytona three times (the final time being in 1986, some 12 years after it was built). More recently, the car has been featured at Rennsport Reunion 1 and 2, and was in Excellence Magazine in 2002.

This 911 appears to be current on all of its safety equipment, and was the subject of a recent restoration by Dawes Motorsport. BP #55 has a long history, and now is your chance to write the next chapter yourself. Rennsport Reunion isn’t that far away, and it might be deserving of an invite!

3. 1990 Porsche 911 (964) Carrera 2 Targa For Sale

This third-generation Targa model is quite fetching. The 964 has always had something of an odd reputation in the Porsche community, but they are on the rise in the marketplace. This early 964 Targa is no exception. Just over 3500 Carrera 2 Targa models were sold between 1990 and 1993 (an additional 1,329 Carrera 4 Targa were produced), making it a pretty rare piece. Porsche was in pretty dire straits in the early-to-mid 1990s, and this car, blending new with 25 year old body panels, didn’t really help their image. It’s a lovely car, but perhaps one Porsche would rather forget.

If you’re looking for open-top motoring this summer, however, it’s hard to beat this beauty. You get all the joys of aircooled driving with the top cut off. Plus, you get the fantastically updated suspension and transmission for an easier to live with driving experience. This one is close to $40 grand, and soon that price will be of a bygone era. This is an asset that should only appreciate.

4. EPA and DOT Approved with US Title – 1996 Porsche 911 (993) Carrera RS For Sale

With only 300 horsepower and a 5.0 second 0-60 time it may seem hard to believe that the 993 Carrera RS is considered by many to be Porsche’s most hardcore and focused driver’s car of all time. However, it’s a lightweight performer that requires a driver to be driven. Current performance cars are faster, but with electronic nannies, dual clutch transmissions, and tires as wide as your arm is long, there isn’t much talent to driving them quickly. This car is a stunning performance wizard that can both cast its spell on you or completely destroy you if you make it angry. Purchase at your own risk.

The price is quite high at $340,000, but this Porsche has already been approved for use in the United States, carrying EPA and DOT paperwork, as well as a California title. That paperwork alone is probably worth quite a lot of money, knowing how hard it is to deal with the DMV to get anything done. These cars have also been going up at an alarming rate (as has any Porsche with an RS badge), so get while the getting is good.

5. 1983 Porsche 911 SC For Sale

Like the 964, the 911 SC has long been an unloved part of the Porsche historical lineup. It doesn’t have the classically handsome good looks of the longhood cars, and it doesn’t have the power of the later Carrera 3.2 cars. In the last handful of years, however, both sides of that equation have increased leaps and bounds in price. The SC, then, doesn’t look such a bad proposition when you can get 90% of the Porsche for half the money. Unfortunately, as they say, a rising tide raises all ships, and the SC is now increasing steadily to well above what they were worth just 4 or 5 years ago. This one, however, is likely worth that asking price, as the photos appear to depict the nicest SC I’ve seen in over a decade.

It’s got relatively high miles at 108K, but the paint and interior look fantastic. That maroon interior with cloth inserts is to die for. Not much information is given on service records, so I would certainly want to look into recent services and what updates have been properly carried out. That said, if all checks out, this is a nicely optioned car with a beautiful street presence. Is the SC market running out of steam? Maybe. Maybe not.
