Our Favorite Porsches on eBay This Week: Volume 62

We’ve been compiling some amazing Porsche models on eBay for almost two years now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. In all that time, we’ve published these every other week. Well, enough of you have spoken up that we’re going to try a weekly format, with two of us picking selections, so check back often. This week, we’ve assembled five more Porsches for you to peruse. All of them ended up in our list thanks to their exterior colors. Four of them are 993s in some of the more rare colors you’ll see and one is a long hood 911 in a color I’ve never seen in person (at least on a 911 of this vintage). Some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. Barney: 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S For Sale

I’ve always gone plum crazy for purple Porsches and this Amaranth Violet paint-to-sample example is no exception. With 43k miles on the clock, this 993 is no garage queen, but it’s also really just getting broken in. I think I would have liked to see a gray or cashmere colored interior vs. the two-tone interior found here, but it’s not enough to turn me off. A few tasteful upgrades have been done over the years including H&R suspension and a factory short shift kit. I don’t even mind the aftermarket spoiler too much. There’s currently one bid on this beautiful Barney. How high will it go? Are we past the time of 6-figure C4S’s?

2. Green Machine: 1996 Porsche 911 CARRERA 4S

There’s just something about the various shades of green that call to me. Our 993 is Forest Metallic Green while our Cayenne is Olive Green. The 993 C4S you see here is in the muted, yet still lovely, Adventurine Green Metallic. There’s not a ton of info in the description, but the pictures show what look to be a mostly thorough service history and a Porsche in close to original condition (the head unit has been changed out). No word on how it was optioned, but a quick check of the option codes should answer that question. With 46,000 miles on the clock I wonder if the seller’s pricing might be a bit ambitious. Then again, it is a C4S and it is a rare color combination. As a fellow C4S owner, I’d like to see it sell well. We’ll just have to wait and see.

3. One Owner, Zenith Blue 1997 Porsche 993 Carrera Cabriolet For Sale

Normally, I’m not a big fan of the narrow body 993s. However, any color other than silver, red or black always stands out to me and this Zenith Blue example is no exception. This one-owner Porsche was special ordered as a gift for the seller’s wife and extremely well optioned. Combine that with a complete service history from their local dealer (Beverly Hills Porsche) and a whole slew of recent work this particular cabriolet would make a very nice drop-top toy.

4. It’s Not a Mirage: 1998 Porsche 993 Targa For Sale

If you can get past the fact that this listing is pretty much a lesson in how not to sell your Porsche on eBay (limited details, crappy pictures, probably overpriced, etc.) this particular 993 will still be a fun one to watch. I have to say it’s the first Gold (color is called Mirage Metallic) 993 I’ve ever seen and unfortunately, the pictures don’t do it justice. Seller, if you’re reading, update your pictures. It will help you sell the car and it will make me very, very happy! Seriously, this 993 has seen 120,000 miles, but the seller says the engine and suspension were both rebuilt less than 30k miles ago. We think his asking price is a bit high, but what do we know. If a golden Targa is your thing, definitely give this 993 a look and get a thorough PPI while you’re at it. If everything checks out, the price probably isn’t that far off.

5. Black Beauty: 1969 Porsche 911S For Sale

Probably the first thing you notice is that this particular 911 isn’t a 993. Good eye! The next thing I noticed was the color. Black just isn’t something you see on a lot of long hoods and that’s why it’s included here. Unfortunately, in this instance, it’s not the original color (that was Burgundy Red). The rest of the car is said to be “numbers matching”. However, it then goes on to say, in the very detailed description, that one of the owners had the original 2.0 liter engine rebuilt at some point to 2.2 liter specs? So, is it still numbers matching because the block remains the same? Either way, this looks to be a well loved and exceptionally maintained example of an early 911. However, given all the modifications from “original” I’m not quite sure it warrants such a high price tag. What do you say?
