Our Favorite Porsches On Ebay: Volume 109

We’ve been compiling some amazing Porsche models on eBay for nearly three years now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. This week, because we’ve just returned home from #Luft5, we’re going in the complete opposite direction to feature some great water-cooled cars! Some of our favorite Porsches are water-cooled, and the wassergekühlt fans are every bit as cool as those Luft fanatics. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed our curated look at the Porsche market. Keep in mind, some of these Porsches could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 1988 PORSCHE 944 TURBO FOR SALE

A decent 944 Turbo is a great thing. This is a driver-grade model that has just over 100K on the clock, so you should not be afraid of driving it. The photos in this listing don’t inspire me with the greatest of confidence, as the seller couldn’t even be bothered to pick up the litter around the 944, or move it out of its parking space in what appears to be an apartment complex. However, if the maintenance records check out, this could be a killer deal. At just under thirteen grand, this water-cooler might provide a lot of enjoyment.

2. 2016 PORSCHE BOXSTER SPYDER FOR SALE

The 981 Boxster Spyder earned its place in my heart as the best street-oriented Porsche of the modern age. This is a phenomenal Porsche to drive – top up or down. The 3.8-liter provides tons of shove, and the roadster-silhouette cuts one of the most beautiful shapes of all time. It’s just a little bit more aggressive to look at than a standard Boxster Spyder, and packs a bigger punch, but it’s a forgiving car to drive. As great as its GT4 sibling is on a track, the Boxster Spyder is its perfect street car foil.

3. 2011 PORSCHE 911 GT3 RS FOR SALE

There is nothing that has not been said about the 997 GT3 RS 3.8L, and here’s the thing; all of it is true. While not quite as fast as its 4-liter special edition counterpart, the 3.8-liter is a monster in its own right. Having spent some time in both, the 997 GT3 RS is much more of a driver’s play thing than the 991 GT3 RS could ever be. The 997 will let you play with the limit and explore your own abilities as a driver, while the 991’s only objective is to set the fastest lap time from your driveway to the grocery store and back. The 997 is still ludicrously fast, but it feels more nimble and more willing to work with you.

4. MANUAL TRANSMISSION 1979 PORSCHE 928 FOR SALE

Do I actually recommend buying this specific 928? Well, maybe. The bright yellow paint is a draw, even though the fender vents are killing the deal for me, mentally. I almost like the wide body treatment, but can’t see past the hood scoop or the wing. There are a few red flags to look past here, but the real key is the manual transmission shifter. A 928 with a 5-speed is a wholly different car from its automatic stablemates. All it takes is a simple test drive to see that the shift-your-own 928 is the one to have, especially given how rare they are!

5. 1999 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA 2 FOR SALE

I’m not sure what happened. Somewhere in the last year, 996s have become cool again. For years they’ve been derided as the cheap Porsche with the exploding engine, but lately I’m hearing from more and more people who have come around on them. While the headlights certainly won’t be winning any beauty contests, the rest of the car is designed with an elegant simplicity, and it’s certainly a smaller and more nimble car to drive than any Porsche you’d find at the dealership. The great thing about them, however, is that you don’t have to look at the headlights from inside the car!
