We’ve been compiling some amazing Porsche models on eBay for nearly three years now, and we’ve seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. This week we’re focusing solely on 911 racing car tributes and clones. Some clones are very well done and can be quite valuable, and others less so. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed our curated look at the Porsche market. Keep in mind, some of these Porsches could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

1. 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera RS Tribute
There is surprisingly little information available in the listing of this Porsche. This 2.7 RS clone was built by the geniuses at Kelly Moss Road & Race, so you can rest assured that quality components were employed. The fact that it’s sitting in a Porsche dealership instead of a specialty shop means the salesman is unlikely to know much about it beyond what’s in the file, so be prepared for that discussion if you do call on it. The car started life as a 1973 911E, so they didn’t need to hack apart the front for a backdate, which is a serious positive on a build like this. The green/black combo is a great look for this Porsche, and the $180K price tag, while a lot, is only a fraction of the real thing.

2. 1976 Porsche 911 RSR Backdate Recreation
Dick Barbour Performance churned out this lovely wide-fendered RSR motorsport-look 911 from a 1976 911. That is crucial, because they say the mid-year cars are lighter for a project like this. They’re also significantly less desirable, making them the perfect starting point. With all of the backdate sheetmetal done, and a bunch of lightweight components to make it even quicker, Barbour popped a 1985-spec 3.2-liter engine in the back, slapped its ass, and it bucked and kicked its way out of the shop. It’s a wild ride that even has air conditioning. It’s got way too much interior to be a proper RSR, however.

3. 1973 Porsche 911 RSR Tribute
This car is very similar to the one above it. Similar color, same 3.2-liter engine, similar theme, etc. The only real difference is that this one is built on a real 1973 long-hood 911. That difference is what makes up the fifty-thousand dollar difference between them. Also, the Dick Barbour car is more RSR-influenced, while this one features several real RS and RSR components. It’s a more faithful recreation, I suppose.

4. 1984 Porsche 911 935 Tribute
Porsche’s 935 silhouette racer was certainly a terror on the race track, but very few have ever seen time on the street. Given this car’s huge fenders, sloping nose, giant airdam, and Martini livery, it probably looks the business sitting in traffic on the highway. While they were traditionally turbocharged in motorsport, this one features a fire-breathing 400 horsepower naturally aspirated 3.4-liter engine. This car does have a full cage, fire suppression system, and is eligible to race in a number of series. I’d probably still try to register it for weekend driving, because I’m nutty.

5. 1982 Porsche 911 Backdate RS Tribute
Nearly seventy thousand dollars for an early 1980s SC would seem like an exorbitant amount, but considering this one looks like a proper million-dollar-Carrera, and has an early 993 engine sitting in between the rear fenders, that might actually be a fair price. If you’re looking for a vintage look with modern driving dynamics, this might be the car you need.
