Every other week we do a round-up of our favorite Porsches for sale on eBay. The offerings usually consist of a mix of classic air-cooled Porsches, maybe a racecar or two and something unique or different. This week, while doing our search, we stumbled upon what just might be the ultimate eBay find, ever: A Porsche 919 Hybrid "Buck" or 1:1 model car
Apparently, as part of a charity effort, Porsche Asia Pacific is auctioning off the full-sized 919 Hybrid replica to raise funds for SportCares – a foundation that passionately works to improve the lives of underprivileged children, at-risk youth, needy seniors and members of community with disabilities.
According to what we read, only 13 such 1:1 scale replicas exist worldwide and the one on sale will be the only one of the examples to be offered for private sale. The “bucks” or replicas serve as important development prototypes that car manufacturers use for studies. Very rarely are they allowed to leave the factory yet alone be available for sale. Even better, this one has been signed by the six Porsche 919 Hybrid drivers that participated at Le Mans 2014 and the WEC 2014 — Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley, Mark Webber, Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb.
While the auction description doesn’t come right out and say it, to the best of our knowledge, these “bucks” don’t have an engine. So, you wanna be LMP1 racers, don’t think you’re going to hit the track in this. It’s meant for display purposes only. [Update: we spoke to the auction company yesterday and they have now updated the listing to clarify the points we made above].
The auction has just started now and will end on Sunday June 14th at 9 p.m. (Singapore time, GMT+8) to coincide with the ending of the 24 Hours of Le Mans where we all know that three real 919 Hybrid LMP1 cars are competing for the win.
