Video: EVO Magazine Drives RM Auctions’ Porsche Rally-prepared 911S

This 911S was factory prepared for rally and circuit racing competition. The 911 has a very long history with rally racing, and this is one of the cars that really got that history moving. In 1965 and 1966, nobody was really looking to the 911 to be competitive on race tracks or rally courses, it was bigger, heavier, and less raw than the 356 it replaced. It wasn’t until the first 911S cars started showing up in 1967 that people started taking it seriously. That high-revving engine really transformed the 911 into a racer, and turned doubters into believers.

EVO magazine’s Dickie Meaden got his grubby little mitts on the steering wheel of the 1969 Acropolis Rally winning 911S for this video. The car is coming up for sale next week at RM Auction’s Paris sale, and they gave Mr. Meaden a chance at the wheel. One thing is for certain, the sound of this Porsche’s exhaust alone is worth the million plus estimate for the car. Add in the Acropolis victory, and the fact that this chassis has competed at Le Mans three separate times, and you’ve got a recipe for a big sale.

Go watch the video and turn up the speakers, because you’re really going to want to hear this thing shout and bark!
