Porsche Introduces New 4-Cylinder “Entry Level” Macan

Early yesterday we started receiving press releases from Porsche’s PR departments around the globe about a new “entry level” Macan to be added to the current model line up (S, Turbo and GTS). However, it wasn’t until late yesterday afternoon that we heard from PCNA. Unofficially we knew the new 4-Cylinder base level Macan was coming to the U.S., but officially we had to wait to tell you about it. Now that Porsche has made it clear they plan to debut their less expensive Macan option in New York we can share with you what we know.

Priced at $47,500 (excluding delivery, processing, and handling fee of $1,050) the 2017 Macan is available to order now with deliveries expected to start this summer in July. Equipped with a 2.0 liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine and standard seven-speed PDK. The 2017 Macan produces 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. This allows for a top track speed of 142 mph and when outfitted with the optional Sport Chrono package it will go from 0 to 60 on 6.1 seconds Not lighting fast, but quick for an SUV.

At 3,902 pounds, this new Macan is the lightest SUV made by Porsche, add in optional air suspension with load-leveling control and Porsche’s PASM system with adaptive dampers and we should experience some fairly agile handling. Given its relatively light weight and smaller engine, the base Macan delivers 20 mpg in city driving and 25 mpg on the highway, for an estimated improvement of up to 18 percent compared to the Macan S.

Visually and in terms in of equipment, there is little that separates the new Macan from the rest of the family. Distinguishing exterior characteristics are matte black window surrounds and brake calipers in black, while the unique dual exhaust pipes are finished in stainless steel. The front fascia and lava black side blades match the Macan S. The Macan comes standard with Bi-XenonTM headlights, 8-way power front seats, seat centers in Alcantara®, the newest generation of Porsche Communication Management (PCM), Piano Black interior package, and a lane departure warning system.
