Back in May Porsche issued a recall of their new Macan for a potentially faulty brake booster. Of the 2500 cars to be inspected, none were in the U.S. However, this August, Porsche filed paperwork with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notifying them that during manufacturing, the brake booster of certain Porsche Macans in the U.S may have been damaged. But, and this is a HUGE but, they’re talking about a total of 7 Macans POTENTIALLY affected. More importantly, according to Porsche’s own documents, the defect is so minor that braking still “meets the legally required mininimum requirements, but not Porsche’s internal standards.” As of August, Porsche delivered 3947 Macans in the U.S. So, in total we’re looking at less than .2% of all of them. Not much of a recall.
If you own 1 of the 7 Macans potentially troubled by this problem, Porsche will notify you. Your dealer will inspect and replace the brake booster, as necessary, free of charge. If you’re concerned about your Macan, you can contact customer service at 1-800-545-8039. If you want to reference the specific recall, Porsche is using the designation AE02 to track it.
