Facts and figures, numbers and data; sure they are important, but they don’t tell the whole story. Nowhere is that more true than in Porsche’s Macan. On paper, the Macan Turbo and Macan Turbo S look like nothing more than soccer mom mobiles, albeit rocketship-quick ones. What the numbers don’t tell you, though, is how convincing a job they do of acting like true sports cars.
Recently, Autocar Magazine’s Steve Sutcliffe got the opportunity to drive the Macan Turbo on track at Porsche’s Leipzig test track. He calls the car “really fast, and really well composed”, positing that the average Macan owner won’t appreciate the brilliance that is the chassis and engine. Sutcliffe even got a light reprimand for flogging it just a bit too hard. Luckily for us, they filmed it all. When Steve drives the Porsche Macan, we all win.
The rear biased handling, 7-speed PDK transmission, sporty steering wheel, and aggressive demeanor all add up to a surprisingly agile and responsive Porsche that puts the “sport” back in SUV. As Porsche’s first from-scratch model since the Panamera was introduced in 2008, the Macan has some big shoes to fill. From what we can tell so far, the Macan is more than the sum of its parts, in true Porsche fashion.
