By now you’ve probably heard that Porsche is finally launching GTS versions of both the Boxster and Cayman. However, chances are you didn’t get to see the introduction of these newest models live. With China as Porsche’s 2nd largest market in the world (and 2-door sports cars make up nearly half of all the cars they’ve delivered there) it’s no wonder Porsche chose Beijing for their introduction.
However, more importantly, in addition to the Cayman and Boxster GTS, Porsche unveiled new a base Macan (lower down the model lin than the S model) and built specifically for the Chinese market. This new base Macan is powered by a 4-cylinder turbo charged engine (237 horsepower and maximum speed of 136 mph). Is this the same 4-cylinder we could see in upcoming Boxster and Cayman models?
If you watched through to the end of the video, you’ll note that Porsche introduced another 3 models adopted specifically for China. The Panamera 4S Sport Edition (based on the GTS but powered by twin turbo V6) along with extended wheel base versions of the Porsche Panamera and Panamera 4. With all these new models geared toward China, how long will it be before China unseats the US as Porsche’s single largest market?
