4-Wheelers and road aficionados in the So Cal area are most likely familiar with Burns Canyon Road (otherwise known as FSR #2N02). It’s 20 miles of overland trail running from Pioneertown, CA into Baldwin Lake that provides access to many of the other off-road trails in the Big Bear area. A trip along #2N02 takes you from the low-desert high up into the San Bernandino National Forest. It’s a great place to get away and where seeing purpose build off-road vehicles is the norm. What’s not the norm, however, is seeing a 1959 Porsche 356 carving trails right along side them.
Matt Hummel first broke onto the scene when Petrolicious released their video, “The Porsche 356 Is Driven Against The Grain“. In it, they introduced us to Matt, his ’59 356 and his philosophy of driving to get lost. In other words, Matt uses his Porsche and takes it anywhere and everywhere. No where is that more evident than in the video above as Matt attempts to cross the 20+ mile Burns Canyon Road. You’ll be amazed at how well he does.
I have to say, after watching, I’m itching to go try some roads I otherwise might not. Or, I need to suck it up and get one of these Safari 911s. Would you drive your beloved Porsche the way Matt does his?
