This Porsche 356 Is Meant To Get Lost In

In today’s world of stratospheric price levels for air-cooled Porsches its becoming increasingly rare to find unrestored and unmolested examples. While there are definitely exceptions, an overwhelming majority of those that you do find spent a better part of their life as garage queens, undriven and admired from afar. Matt Hummel’s 356 is the exact opposite of that.

Found in a mis-spelled Craigslit ad, Hummel discovered this 1956 356 sitting in a barn since the ’70s. After making a deal on it and bringing it home, it sat for more than a year before Hummel decided to get it running. Remarkably, all he wanted to do was get the 356 in mechanical shape for driving. No cosmetic work would be done to the interior or exterior of the Porsche. The 356 would be used for the pure pleasure of driving. This is his story and the story of his 356.
