Watch John Willhoit Explain His 356 Engine Building Process To Jay Leno

Back in 2013 Jay Leno acquired a ’63 Porsche 356 Carrera 2 and wanted to know its past ownership history. During his search for the car’s provenance he learned that John Willhoit (of Willhoit Restoration) was a past owner and the man responsible for its restoration. Jay decided to have John on his show, Jay Leno’s Garage, and since then the two have become friends.

The video below is John’s second visit to Jay’s show. This time the Porsche in question isn’t his. Instead it belongs to Dr. Anand Rajani, who hired John to give his ’64 356 C a little more power. As part of the show, John walks Jay through the process of taking a 1.6 liter engine and resizing it to just over 2.1 liters adding more than 50% more horsepower and torque in the process. It’s a fascinating watch and there’s some bonus conversations about zinc content in oil and the need for it in air-cooled cars.
