“First Gear is good for 160kph;” Adam Carolla meets the 917/30

Adam Carolla isn’t traditionally a “Porsche Guy,” though that doesn’t stop him going geeky on the brand’s iconic racers. The Drive has now released two videos from Adam’s time at Goodwood. The first centered on his ex-Paul Newman 1987 300ZX Turbo. This video is the second in the series, and features the Can-Am 917/30; the 1000+ horsepower monster of motorsports legend. Porsche’s Johannes Wuest walks Adam through the 917, highlighting some of the differences between the turbocharged car and its naturally-aspirated counterparts.

It is always striking just how small the 917 is in any form. The Can Am cars had a slightly longer wheelbase than their predecessors. According to Wuest, the car is still very compact and weighs just 850kg(~1900lbs). Though Adam is traditionally a Datsun-fanatic, this video and his recent ex-Paul Newman 935 purchase are pretty significant signs of his coming descent into the craziness that is Porsche collecting.
