Porsche 918 Spyder Recalled, Again, for Front Control Arm Issues

For the second time in two years the 918 Spyder is being recalled due to issues with the front control arms. The last recall took place in December of 2014 and affected 39 918 Spyders. The current recall affects 306, which some sources believe may be the entirety of the US allotment. It is unclear if the two issues are the same, or simply similar. In 2014 the NHTSA described the issue as follows:

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain model year 2015 Porsche 918 vehicles manufactured February 25, 2014, to September 18, 2014. The front lower control arms may fracture.

The current recall is being described slightly differently:

Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain model year 2015 918 Spyder vehicles manufactured November 6, 2013, to July 27, 2015. The affected vehicles have front lower control arms that may crack at the ball joint.

The solution to both recalls is the same. All affected cars are to have their front lower control arms replaced. Porsche will notify owners, and the control arms will be replaced free of charge. Hopefully this is the end of the 918s troubles, and owners can return to enjoying one of the greatest hypercars of all time.
