Having set the lap record for road vehicles on the Nürburgring Nordschleife (6:57 minutes), the Porsche 918 Spyder was already pretty damn fast. Today, Porsche announced it’s even faster. By tuning the electric motors Porsche is able to lower the zero to 60 mph time to just 2.5 seconds. That’s .2 seconds faster than previously announced and what I like to call “motorcycle fast”. In fact, it’s quicker to sixty than Ducati’s fastest street bike the 1199 Panigale R. In other words it’s really freakin’ fast!
Besides improving zero to 60mph times, Porsche also improved the zero to 124 mph time to 7.2 seconds (.5 seconds faster than before) and it can reach 186 mph in 19.9 seconds (2.1 seconds faster). Let’s assume that the Nürburgring Nordschleife record will be improved upon as a result.
If all that weren’t enough, Porsche’s tuning efforts increased the electric only performance as well. The electric motors alone (one each on the front and rear axles) allow the 918 Spyder to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 6.2 seconds, without producing any emissions. This marks a reduction of seven tenths of a second on the previous time. With the Weissach package fitted, time is reduced to 6.1 seconds.
