What is it with a few bad egg 918 owners doing dumb things with their cars lately? I get that we live in a world where you don’t have to be smart to be wealthy, but these guys aren’t doing us any favors with the community at large. How do you convince your acquaintances that owning a Porsche doesn’t make you a ‘douche-bag’ when they see headlines like this, or the video below?
When you’re a multi-millionaire heir to a Saudi fortune, what do you do to get attention? Well, I guess the answer is to ship your 918 Spyder to London and have the car professionally detailed on the street during peak traffic times. As you can see in the video below, the car is already too wide for its parking space on the side of the road, and when you add in wheel detailing, the whole scene sticks out into the lane, forcing cars, trucks, and buses to divert a lane over to pass safely.
What do you think? Was this an inconsiderate display of opulence, or was the car’s owner completely justified in cleaning his beautiful hypercar? Am I just bitter because I own a Boxster instead of a 918? Maybe it’s the drought regulations making me refrain from detailing and washing my own car? Even the Ferrari driver going by must have been thinking “C’mon mate, you must be taking the mick…” You know you’ve gone too far when you start annoying the Ferrari drivers, am I right?
