Porsche 918 Drag Races A McLaren P1 And A Motorcycle To 200 Miles Per Hour

As I was watching this video, I couldn’t help but feel slightly overcome by the steady marching wave of ever advancing technology in cars. Then I almost fainted in sheer terror at the thought of riding a motorcycle at 194 miles per hour. Autocar pits a Porsche 918 against a McLaren P1, and then throws in a Ducati Panigale Superleggera just for kicks. The fact that Porsche and McLaren build competing road-legal cars that are capable of 200 miles per hour in under 30 seconds, in a standing mile no less, is just plain phenomenal. It’s unnecessary to the point of absurdity, but then absurdity is kind of the point here, isn’t it? In the video, they mention that Ferrari wouldn’t provide a LaFerrari to compete in this race against its contemporaries, are they chicken? It would have been interesting to bring along the old king of the hill, Bugatti’s Veyron as well, to see how it stacks up against the hybrid monsters of the new era of Hypercars. Maybe someday.

Through this test, Autocar teaches us a few things about the 918. It accelerates like a rocketship because of its four driven wheels. The Weissach Package looks absolutely stunning with the Salzburg livery option. They also teach us where the Porsche falls in a battle between it, a McLaren P1, and a Ducati hyper-bike.
