This is the 928 Porsche Entered into the HSCC to Celebrate the model’s 40th Anniversary

First introduced to the public in the spring of 1977, the 928 was originally designed as a replacement for the 911. A luxurious grand tourer, the new 928 was powered with a front mounted 4.5l V8 producing 240hp. It became the first sportscar ever to be awarded the prestigious title of “Car of the Year” by European automotive journalists.

Thankfully, the 928 never did replace the 911. However, it did secure its spot in Porsche’s long and storied history as an outstanding luxury GT car and the last of the traditional 2-door, transaxle models.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 928 the four UK Porsche Classic Partner Centers entered a 1978 928, driven by none other than Richard Atwood, in the 2017 season of the HSCC 70’s Roadsport Championship. This is that 928.
