Now is your chance to buy a wrecked Porsche Carrera GT for just a few hundred thousand dollars

Someone in St. Louis wrecked maybe the most iconic supercar in Porsche history, and here is your chance to buy it. I’m going to sound like an old man here, but I remember not that long ago when you could buy a perfect Carrera GT for around 300,000 American dollars. Those days are gone, and the CGT has exploded in value by around a million dollars in under ten years. Now, it would seem, that you can’t even get a wrecked one for the price that a perfect one would demand around 2013. Wild, right?

The listing on Copart is, as of this writing, sitting with a current bid of $401,000. It doesn’t come out and say exactly what happened here, but the Carrera GT is a notoriously difficult car to drive, and it seems likely someone got in over their head here. Could you imagine crashing a 1.4 million dollar car? How devastating would that feel? Yeesh.

Luckily, the damage to this car doesn’t look all that bad. I mean, it doesn’t look good, but at least it looks repairable. The carbon chassis is probably still fine on this car, and it just needs some aesthetic repairs. Maybe a radiator? Definitely some airbags. Who knows, you’re taking a gamble bidding on this car, but right now it’s probably the least expensive way to own a Carrera GT if you’re really looking to own one.

Obviously the Carrera GT is one of the most sought after Porsches out there. Only made from 2004 to 2007 the Type 980 Carrera GT was powered by a massive 610-ish horsepower V10 engine originally destined for Le Mans competition. It was the most analog supercar of its time, maybe of all time, which explains at least some of the reasoning behind the car’s current valuation. I guess if you can’t get a modern hypercar with a manual transmission at any price, you’re willing to pay more for an earlier and analog car. But if it’s wrecked?
