Porsche To Offer Apple Car Play For Future Models

With all the talk about self-driving cars and the dangers of mobile devices dominating the headlines, it appears there is some relief on the horizon.

Rather than shunning communications technology or taking control away from the driver, Apple and Porsche are developing increasingly innovative solutions for the modern driver to stay in touch, navigate one’s way, and maintain control of the vehicle all at once.

While Porsche already offers its own Porsche Car Connect (PCC) app (all Porsche hybrids come with PCC as standard and as of model year 2015, it is optional for all our four-door models) it has recently announced that it will offer Apple’s CarPlay in its future models. CarPlay is a technological interface of one’s iPhone and iWatch to offer greater hands-off connectivity through voice or simple touch commands already common to car-driver interface.

In addition to easy drive-time interfacing, both apps also offer features such as car locking, seat pre-heating sun-roof controls and other convenient controls of automotive creature-comforts.

Maybe we’re not doomed to self-driving cars after all.
