Check Out This Long-Tail 918 Spyder Creation

What a beauty! Too bad it only exists in the digital world for right now. Created by a group of six designers for real “car guys“, this 908-04 Concept is built for Gran Turismo 6 as one of their Vision GT concepts*.

Why Did We Call It A Long-Tail 918 When The Designers Call is a 908-04?

While the designers say their idea was to “make a modern interpretation of the 1969 908 LH”, they did so clearly using the 918 Spyder and 919 Hybrid LMP1 as their modern inspiration. In fact, MotorTrend’s Jonathaon Klein suggested that the overall design is that of the 918 Spyder road car, but with the entire exterior lowered onto a 919 Le Mans race car chassis.

We would add that beyond the 918 and 919 influence are some clear signs of both the 917 and the original 918 RSR concept. Most notable is the exposed fan at the rear of the car. As for the long tail, here’s what the designers had to say.

“We made the choice to have the longtail because Porsches with this feature have something genuinely unique. And until now, nobody, as far as we know, has tried to create a modern version of it. In our opinion, it is a bit of a forgotten idea, so we thought it would be a ‘rebirth of an icon’ that would generate nostalgia in car and Porsche enthusiasts alike,” according to the team’s website.

Unfortunately, as of right now, you can’t. Apparently this isn’t an officially sponsored or sanctioned project from either Porsche or Gran Turismo. Instead, it’s an idea that lives digitally and in the minds of its creators. However, given all the press we’ve seen, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see it make an appearance in Gran Turismo at some point in the near future.
