Video: Motor Trend Pits Porsche’s 911 GTS Against BMW’s M4 CS

300 KmPH on the German Autobahn in a pair of Germany’s best sports coupes isn’t a bad way to spend the day, even when it is raining. Following that up with a day at the Nürburgring is perhaps the best weekend we could ever imagine. MotorTrend’s Jethro “DeathRow” Bovingdon and Jonny “LoverMan” Lieberman take these two German four-seat turbocharged 6-cylinder sports cars for a few days of testing, and come away impressed. And deservedly so. Both of these cars are basically the best version of each model, though the BMW is a bit more track focused.

Is Porsche’s best road-going 911 enough to take on the M4 CS?

Following a glorious day of lapping in the sunshine at the Nurburgring, the pair of video hosts haul these two sports coupes down to Austria to take a gorgeous mountain pass in a snowstorm. They’ve given both of these cars a thorough test in multiple different wild conditions. While the M4 is a great car, we know which of these we’d prefer. The 991.2 is an incredible performance machine, while also remaining seriously comfortable. We loved the 991.1 GTS, and imagine the .2 version to be more of the same.

The conclusion that they come to shouldn’t really surprise anyone who has driven a 991.2 or a BMW M4; The M4 CS is the best car BMW’s M division makes right now, it feels like a motorsport product, and it’s different and special, but it’s not as good as the 911 GTS. The 911 is ‘about as good as a sports car gets‘, and it does everything – road, track, mountain driving, commuting – better than the BMW. Further than that, it’s just plain more beautiful.

As Jonny says of the 911, “It’s kind of the perfect weapon“. That’s the highest praise we can think of for a great 911.
