Motor Trend’s Best Driver’s Car: Porsche Carrera S Squares Off Against the Best

The Porsche 911 family has long punched above its weight. When it launched in the mid 1960s, displacing just 2.0l, the 911 gained a reputation as a giant slayer on the race track. In 2016 the story is very much the same. The new 3.0l Carrera S isn’t even the top of the 911 range, yet Motor Trend set it against some of the most fearsome driver’s cars from the world of enthusiast automobiles. In one of their finest video efforts yet, Motor Trend shows how even a humble 911 stacks up against some of the most steroidal sports cars on the planet.

Despite being the least powerful car in the test (the Camaro 1LE was the next least powerful car, with 455 horsepower, every other car brought a minimum of 500 horsepower to the table), the Porsche turned out to be an absolute force on-track and on the street. At Laguna Seca, the Jaguar F-Type SVR, Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, Nissan GT-R, BMW M4 GTS and the Camaro 1LE all lagged behind the second-least powerful 911. Watch the video above for the results, or go to Motor Trend’s website for more details.
