Tuned 993 Pushes a 991 GT3 RS Around the ‘Ring

With hundreds of thousands of dollars separating these two track tools, the owner of the lava orange 991 might feel a trifle embarrassed after getting hounded by a 993. However, he shouldn’t feel too badly, because the man in the understated 993—a Mr. Sandro Ziegler—is a virtuoso.

To be fair to the owner of the GT3 RS, this section of the Ringis a busy one, and finding a neat way around the hordes Touristenfahren isn’t simple. With the advantage of traffic, Ziegler and his mildly-fettled 993 C4S aggressively nips at the RS’ heels, and never gives his opponent the chance to make use of their power advantage.

Ziegler’s machine is a stripped track day special, and most of its modifications are concerned with minimizing weight. The removal of carpet and air conditioning are the garden-variety weight reductions made on most track cars, but plexiglass rear and side windows and RS door panels make it clear he’s serious. For a little less mass to move around and some more compliance over the curbs he frequently hops, Ziegler’s added a set of OZ Racing Alleggerita wheels.

The modification list continues with a revalved 3.6 and upgraded cams, but the output is just 270 horsepower. Not a powerhouse by any means, but with only 2,650 pounds to push around, this 993 has what it takes to run just inches behind the ultimate trackday 911.

    • You are right Roscoe, it was Sandro's 90 year old grandmother driving the RS and thinking whether she would go to the retirement village and could not make up her mind that is why she keep on putting on the brakes.
