This is Just One of the Many Reasons I’m Excited About the Mission E

Every year “Motor Trend” holds their “World’s Greatest Drag Race”. It’s a who’s who of supercars in a straight-line shoot-out. Not surprisingly, at least one Porsche is featured each year. However, in the 6 seasons “Motor Trend” has been producing this segment Porsche has only won once (back in 2014 a 911 Turbo S took home the win). That’s not surprising given how many cars with significantly more horsepower play a part each season. Just look at this year’s line-up:

Unfortunately, this year was no different. The 911 Turbo S didn’t win the quarter-mile drag, though it did come in third. The car that did win, the Tesla Model S P100D is the first electric car to win “Motor Trend’s” “Word’s Greatest Drag Race” and it makes me even more excited for the upcoming Porsche Mission E.

The Mission E, as it stands now, should beat the base Tesla Model S (minus the Ludicrous Mode) by more than half a second from zero-to-sixty (3.9 vs. 4.5). Not only will it have the brute force acceleration that comes from instantly available torque, as a Porsche it will handle like one. That means, not only will it be fast from stop-light to stop-light, but it should carve the curves like we’ve come to expect from all Porsches. We’ve already seen what our favorite manufacturer can do with their gas powered four-door sedans (not to mention they make SUVs that handle better than most purpose build sports cars). I can’t wait to see what they do with the Mission E!
