Most Porsche 964s we know of are air-cooled. However, this one was quickly and unexpectedly converted to the water-cooled variety after the driver accidently backed it into the River Bure in Norfolk, UK.
According to the report we read, the driver was trying to load the Porsche onto a nearby boat for transport. Unfortunately, their was a loading accident and the Porsche and driver ended up sinking in the river.
Fortunately for the driver, two men working on a nearby boat saw the accident and jumped in to rescue the him as the Porsche was sinking fast. One of the rescuers, Sam Hall, had this to say, “I heard a big revving of an engine and a bang where it had hit the side of a boat and the Porsche was suddenly sitting on the water, he said. We were trying to explain to the driver to get out. I don’t know whether he was in shock, or whether the door was stuck and he couldn’t get out.”
After getting the driver to safety, the 1992 Porsche 964 was then quickly fished from the river and loaded onto a flatbed. The driver was un-hurt and after heading home to dry off he returned to the scene to thank his rescuers.
