This Is What Happens When Your Porsche Hits A Possum At Daytona

Fair warning, this post contains some graphic pictures that might not sit well with some. Continue at your own risk…

Over the course of a 24-hour race almost anything can (and does) happen. Case in point, the picture below.

Andy tells Fox News exactly what happened in the video below.

Amazingly, the damage to the Porsche wasn’t more severe.

In fact, when the 911 GT America first came into the pits Andy thought they were out of the race. Remarkably, the crew was able to put the Porsche back together and the team managed to finish the race in 11th place thanks in part to the attrition of many competitors.

Those familiar with Mangus Racing, and their humor filled press releases, won’t be surprised by the crew’s ability to quickly name the dead possum “BoP” or Ballast of Possum. In fact, shortly after Andy’s first tweet the hastag #AvengeBallast appeared and the poor deceased marsupial even got its own twitter account. I, for one, can’t wait to see how the team handles this in their post race wrap-up.

  • As funny a story in its own way as Hurley Haywood's seagull adventure in a 911 at Daytona "back in the day".

    • Chuck, I completely forgot about that story until just now. I'm sure we've told it on here before. I'll have to dig it up. Thanks for the reminder.

  • If you can't BE at the 24 of Daytona, Magnus' web stream is the next best thing! It's wacky and fun - and some of us have returned year over year. A tad bit odd knowing a person only by screen name - but indeed I have friends like 'chckltcow', and 'HurricaneBarca' that I know nothing of outside of our annual motorsport chat. Odd, yes, but so is hitting a possum during a race, finding it 4 hours later, naming it, and having it turn into an internet hot-minute.
