As part of a radical new cost saving measure, the German Navy is testing a new type of submarine to augment the Type 212 currently in service. Based on Porsche 924s, the new type promises to cost substantially less than the ~500 million Euro cost of the Type 212. With 924s available seemingly by the dozen on Craigslist for less than $5k, this radical measure promises to save millions of Euro each year. One of this new type of Submarine was recently seen testing in the floodwaters in Lynn, Massachusetts.
The video shows some defects with the plan. Despite the 924’s 50:50 weight distribution, the wedge-shaped bodywork causes an undesirable nose-down attitude when moving forward in the water. In deeper water, U-924 seems to float, which bodes well for seaworthiness, though not necessarily for the longevity of the vehicle.
Seriously folks, if you don’t know how deep water is, don’t drive through it. Ingesting water is not good for the longevity of your Porsche. If you need to cross water regularly, invest in a snorkel, or at least a Cayenne.

Why do people keep saying it's a 944? Clearly it's a 924 given the round side markers and lack of box fenders.
