Study Shows Women Find Men Who Drive Porsches Attractive

Not surprisingly, the same study shows that men find women who drive Porsches attractive, too. Go figure. According to the study conducted by Insure.com (in an obvious and successful attempt to get sites like this to talk about them) 2000 men and women were surveyed as to what style and make of cars do attractive people drive. Sports cars and Porsches were among the top three of each segment for each gender.

From a style standpoint, 32% of women felt that the most attractive men drive pickup trucks with sports cars and SUVs coming in at 2nd and 3rd with 27% and 16% of the vote respectively. The top brands of car for attractive men, as ranked by women, were Ford (16%), Chevrolet (13%) and Porsche (11%). From a color standpoint, women overwhelmingly chose black (53%) as the color of cars driven by good-looking men, followed by silver (16%) and red (13%). So, even if you don’t want to drive a black, Ford F-150, you should still do pretty well on the dating scene in a black, silver or red 911, Boxster, Cayman or even a Cayenne. Even better, you can now say, scientifically, that someone other than your mom thinks you’re good looking!

What Men Think

From a man’s standpoint, they weren’t turned on by pickup trucks. Instead, they ranked car types for attractive women slightly different:

• Sports cars: 39%
• Sedans: 22%
• SUVs: 20%
• Pickup trucks: 10%
• Hybrid or electric vehicle: 6%
• Minivans: 4%

Based on the stats below, the cabriolet I’m driving is the wrong color.

Similar to their female counterparts, 10% of men found that women driving Porsche were attractive (as a Porsche driving female, I thought this would be higher) with BMW getting 16% of the vote and Mercedes-Benz at 14%. The top car colors for attractive women were red (40%), black (23%) and silver (14%).

The Importance Of A Clean Car

No matter what brand of car you own, either gender can make their cars more appealing by taking good care of them. “How well a car is maintained is a determinant of attractiveness,” asserts Edmunds.com automotive editor, Mike Magrath. “Like the black Ford truck and the red BMW, it goes beyond simple conveyance. It says this woman cares about how she treats herself and how she maintains her possessions.
Joe Wiesenfelder, executive editor of Chicago-based Cars.com, agrees that “if the car is well kept, there’s a better chance the owner takes good care of him or herself.” These observations are supported by survey results. When asked what’s most important about a car belonging to the opposite sex, people say:

1. That it is clean. (Women: 45%. Men: 43%.)
2. That it is reliable. (Women: 37%. Men: 29%.)
Less important are:
3. That it is interesting. (Women: 7%. Men: 12%.)
4. That it is new or new-ish. (Women: 6%. Men: 9%.)
5. That it is expensive. (Women: 4%. Men: 6%.)

  • Why do women favor pick-up trucks over the rest. Is it because they think that it is more masculine or macho for a man to drive a pick- up truck? That they would be more likely be able to fix things around the house ? Please explain to me this trend which goes beyond pick-up trucks but trucks in general. A truck to me is something to use if your a carpenter or a farmer. If I need a truck to move things, I rent one. You must be careful driving a truck because it could tip over if driven too enthusiastically.

    • While I'm as dumbfounded as you as to why a woman would prefer a truck-drivin' man your last sentence has me baffled. As one that has driven most anything FAR "too enthusiastically" it's pretty danged hard to tip over a truck let alone anything else with 4+ wheels. Seriously, don't be concerned aboot falling over in any vehicle.

    • Bryan, according to the study women preferred trucks for all the reasons you said. It also added that a full-size truck implies that you can fix a leaky pipe. Regular $100 fill-ups suggest that you’re not money-obsessive. And regular $100 fill-ups also suggest that you regularly have $100

  • If I was single again, I would take my dates out in a pickup as to determine whether she's a "gold digger".
I don't know why guys flaunt their expensive cars, maybe they think it acts as a panty remover?
In my experience nothing works better than getting them to laugh, and a little Sauvignon blanc doesn't hurt either!
    lol

  • Interesting article. When I was single I had a black Porsche Targa that I washed, by hand at least twice a week...

I would pick up my dates, however in my 10-year old SUV. I wanted to weed out the girl who wanted me from the ones who wanted my car.

For me it was my love for the car, not what other peoples' image of me in it was. I wish I never sold it.
