Most of you have probably heard something like this before. It’s a true “Urban Legend” in the world of Porsche and goes a little something like this.
A man in California saw an ad in the paper for an “almost new” Porsche, in excellent condition – price $50. He was certain the printers had made a typographical error, but even at $5,000 it would have been a bargain, so he hurried to the address to look at the car.
A nice-looking woman appeared at the front door. Yes, she had placed the ad. The price was indeed $50. “The car,” she said, “is in the garage. Come and look at it.”
The fellow was overwhelmed. It was a beautiful Porsche and, as the ad promised, “nearly new.” He asked if he could drive the car around the block. The woman said, “Of course,” and went with him. The Porsche drove like a dream. The young man peeled off $50 and handed it over, somewhat sheepishly. The woman gave him the necessary papers, and the car was his.
Finally, the new owner couldn’t stand it any longer. He had to know why the woman would sell the Porsche at such a ridiculously low price. Her reply was simple: With a half-smile on her face, she said, “My husband ran off with his secretary a few days ago and left a note instructing me to sell the car and the house, and send him the money.”
Well, according to an ad on Revengesales.com.au (the link has since been taken down), and in multiple stories in the Australian press, it might just be an Urban Myth no longer. In the add the woman says she is the rightful owner of her husband’s low-mileage, 2010 Porsche 911. More importantly, because she found him cheating she’s selling his “precious” Porsche as part of her revenge.
Selling my ex-husbands 2010 Porsche 911 Carrera 997 for $20,000. I have been married to this unfaithful poor excuse for a human being for over 25 years and yes we are wealthy. I had hunches that my husband was cheating so I followed him out on what he said was a “guys poker night” to find him at a 5 star restaurant cuddling up to this young blonde woman (cliché). So to pay him back, as I have rightful ownership of his precious Porsche, I have decided to sell it for a specific price of $20,000. I figured $20,000 is just enough for a return flight/accommodation to Europe so I can fondle with all the wealthy European men!
Similar used Porsches in Australia usually sell in the $80,000 to $150,000 range (Australians pay a huge premium for luxury cars due to taxes and and exchange rates). Unfortunately, we can’t verify if the story is actually true as our emails to the seller haven’t been returned. If it is, Snopes is going to have to update their entry. Alternative theories suggest this might be a viral marketing hoax by the web-site hosting the ad. Which do you think it is?

I think it's an "opportunity"... call me if you hear of another
This did really happen once. I was about 10 years old. I was born 1967 so it was around 1977. My father was looking at the newspaper in camas washington very near portland oregon, usa and it was about 10am, i believe a Saturday morning, and he said WTF this must be a typo or its a wreaked vehicle, and decided to call. She said it sold even before the paper was sent out by an employee. $50, and I think the vehicle was worth $60,000. I think this is what started the retold myth because it was on the news that night and in papers for days.
Moral of the story...be careful how you title your Porsche'!!!!!!!
